OVERVIEW
MVNOs are one of the hottest areas of wireless and are attracting substantial investment. This IDC study provides an overview of MVNOs announced to date and also offers strategies for MVNO market success. IDC believes that the market is highly receptive to well-conceptualized MVNOs because the one-size-fits-all traditional business model of the major service providers does not accommodate key emerging trends in the U.S. wireless market. Nevertheless, a number of the MVNOs announced to date are already setting themselves up for potential market failure.
"Most MVNOs will fail as insufficiently differentiated in an increasingly crowded market," notes Scott Ellison, program director of Wireless and Mobile Communications at IDC. "Those that succeed will be the ones that understand the new dynamics of the emerging wireless retail market," he added.
