OVERVIEW
Blycroft Publishing is pleased to announce the new MNO Directory 2009. This new research profiles almost all active GSM, CDMA and iDEN mobile network operators (MNOs) around the world. The directory contains profiles of 772 MNOs and features over 3,000 named management contacts at an operator level.
Also included in this new edition are owner profiles. These profiles detail companies operating multiple mobile networks across each individual region. This will allow you to make contact with group level management and will also give you an overview of who the main players are within each region.
The MNO Directory 2009 aims to provide you with a thorough insight in to who operates across each region and acts as a tool to assist in your direct marketing efforts and regional analysis.
MOBILE NETWORK OPERATOR PROFILES
Typical MNO profiles are made up of the following data points (please note that all information is provided where possible):
- Network name
- Company name
- Country of operation
- Address
- Telephone (central number, other numbers used where necessary)
- Fax
- URL of the operation
- Owner(s) (name, URL and percentage of shares held if known)
- Network technology (GSM, CDMA or iDEN plus information such as 3G, GPRS, EDGE)
- Named senior management contacts (mainly C level) (name and job title)
- Subscriber data (total subscribers up to Q408, market share and market position)
SUBSCRIBER DATA
As well as contact information the individual volumes provide subscriber data focusing on Q408 (31st December 2008). Within each volume you will find Q408 total subscriber data along with market share and operators individual market positions.
Subscriber data is provided where available which means that not every entry contains subscriber information.
Blycroft’s researchers for ‘Africa & Middle East Telecom Week’ and ‘Eastern Europe Telecom Week’ were utilised for both the Africa & Middle East and Europe, CIS and Russia volumes. This means that both of these volumes provide almost complete datasets for these two regions.
Within North America the directory provides data for the main players and within South America the directory contains data for Argentina, the Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, the Falkland Islands (Q208), Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Further amalgamated data is also provided for South America.
Within Asia the directory provides data for Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Pakistan, Republic of South Korea, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Thailand. Within the Pacific region the directory provides data for Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and the Philippines.
Market share and market position relate to an operator’s performance within their country compared to the other operators. Market share is based upon total subscriber data as of Q408 and market position is a ranking from the largest to the smallest operator in terms of subscribers at Q408.

MANAGEMENT CONTACTS:
Blycroft’s MNO Directory features management contacts. These are the key decision makers and are typically from the senior management teams. The most common job title is that of Chief Executive Officer with other common titles such as Chief Finance Officer and Chief Technology Officer also included.
Within the operator profiles you will find over 3,000 senior managers listed. We have included where possible Vice Presidents, Business Development Executives and directors of various disciplines. Please note that the directory does not contain e-mail addresses or direct dial telephone numbers.
The directory provides generic telephone numbers so you can access central switchboards. Some country based operations will not have a central number in which case an alternative may be found in the owners’ profile section. In certain instances we have provided a customer service number or investor relations contact as the alternative is to provide no telephone number.
OWNER PROFILES
Where a company operates multiple MNOs within a region they have been profiled for that volume. This is a basic profile which contains contact information for the company and details about which MNOs they operate as well as management contacts at this level. Where possible we have also identified the parent companies of these operations.
Volumes 1 and 3 profile companies with 2 or more MNOs. Volumes 2 and 4 profile companies with 3 or more MNOs.
NETWORK INFORMATION
The focus of The MNO Directory 2009 is the contact information, but as part of the profiling of each MNO a significant amount of network technology information has been captured. Most profiles contain information about the core network of each MNO, such as GSM 900, etc.
Where available this is supplemented with launch dates as well as details about GRPS, EDGE and 3G statuses, such as UMTS, HSDPA and CDMA2000.
RESEARCH PROCESS AND ACCURACY OF DATA
The MNO Directory 2009 is a 4 volume set. This global directory is now in its 3rd edition and has grown in size and quality each year as each edition has developed on the one before it.
The first stage of research for the 3rd edition was a complete trawl of multiple telecoms news services (including Blycroft’s Africa & Middle East and other titles). From this research the list of active operations has been amended by removing obsolete operations, adding new launches and adding additional details to profiles which were unavailable for previous editions.
Each volume took a month to fully research and this year the volumes were individually published as soon as their research was complete. During this time researchers used multiple resources to research each MNO. Information used in The MNO Directory has been taken directly from the mobile network operators at a country level, their parent companies (whether part of a telecommunications group or other investment firm), from industry regulators and mobile market analysts across multiple media. Web portals, annual and interim reports, company press releases, industry statements, contract notifications and general news are all examined to capture accurate and relevant data.
The researchers rely on information provided by operators, parent companies and regulators being accurate. Therefore Blycroft can not be held liable for any inaccuracy in the directory or associated losses where data is found to be incorrect. By purchasing the directory all buyers accept this term and acknowledge that churn within management functions may also result in certain contacts no longer working for their respective MNO. In researching the contact information customer service contacts have been used where no alternative contact information could be found and all data is provide where possible.
